Day 155: All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone

Puerto Lopez – Isla de la Plata – Puerto Lopez, Ecuador

Last day of diving today. It was a long long day. I started at 8:30 in the morning and wasn’t back at my hostel at 7:30 in the evening.
On our 3rd and last dive of the day, everybody opted to go remove a giant net that was tangled up on the corals. Seven divers, each diver down in the water for more than an hour. We only managed to remove 70% of the net.

Anyway, It’s sad to finally be done with and have to leave this place. I’m just starting to get used to and bond with the dive crews. Before sending me off to the rest of South America, Luis gave me a crash course in important Spanish phrases:

Mama verga
Chuca tu madre
Hijo de puta
Concha tu madre
La puta que te pario
Cara de verga

It was a great fun to be able to yell those words to the dive crews and the guest divers and have them rolling on the floor laughing instead of punching me straight in the face.

So, after 6 days in Puerto Lopez, I graduated with a master degree in diving and minor in Spanish cursewords. I can’t complain. Life is good.

Richard didn’t dive today and spent his days off walking around town drinking Pina Colada and taking pictures:

Along the beach of Puerto Lopez, there are plenty of these fruit/cocktail shacks. Each freshly squeezed glass of juice costs around $1 to $1.5. The trick is to order any fruit that you want and asked them for “con leche” (with milk). They taste amazing! I chucked down at least two to three a day. Might have gotten mild diarrhea one day but it was worth it.
