Day 392: That Thar Desert

This was the first morning we could sleep till 10 a.m! We left Jaisalmer really late to go to Khuri because of the heat. Anneleen tried to change the broken shoes she bought the other day, but she didn’t get new ones. Raju brought them to a local sewer who fixed them. After we had breakfast at the guesthouse of Raju, we left to the desert. When we arrived in Khuri, it was still really hot so we had to put scarves on our head to protect ourselves from the sun.

Getting on the camel was quite difficult. The camel ride itself was really fun but your but really hurts after a while. We called our camels Hermie and Nacho. Nacho, the (lady) camel of Elys and Annelies, made really funny growly noises, especially when she got up or down. In the desert it was calm and quiet en the views were really nice. Our guides didn’t speak any English, so it was a bit hard communicating with them. The old guy was really sweet though.

In the evening we got really good Indian food in the village. They didn’t spiced it up as they normally do, so it was better for or stomaches. There were also musicians, singers, dancers and firebreathers. When the night felt, we went back to the desert on a chariot, pulled by a camel. Raju was really worried he advised us to not talk to anyone. We still don’t know why he was so paranoia. He also gave us a little bottle of whiskey and was really sneaky about it. We rebelled a little bit and met some funny American guys from New Orleans who spent their days normally by eating, drinking and catching alligators. They also didn’t meet a beautiful person in whole India! We slept on little beds on the sand beneath the open sky, near the border of Pakistan.
