Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney reopened for the first time today after its long renovation. I got a chance to see some really spectacular pieces.
I usually find a lot of modern art boring or pretentious. This museum, however, showcases a few striking, original and well thought-out work.
My two favourite pieces are Christian Marclay’s “The Clock”
The Clock is an art installation by video artist Christian Marclay (born 1955). It is in effect a clock, but it is made of a 24-hour montage of thousands of time-related scenes from movies and some TV shows, meticulously edited to be shown in “real time”: each scene contains an indication of time (for instance, a timepiece, or a piece of dialogue) that is synchronized to show the actual time.and Daniel Crook’s “Static No. 12″:
I also met this American artist Edgar Arceneaux working on his piece in the museum. It’s always interesting to see work in progress.
In the evening, I met up with Stephen and his wife Christine. I first knew Stephen from the Internet back in the mIRC years in 1996. It has been 15 years. As soon as I hit Stephen up online telling him that I’m in Sydney, he invited me to have dinner with his wife. After the meal, Stephen and Christine brought me to a site by the Luna Park where we could see the perfect view of Sydney’s skyline and the Harbour Bridge at night. My photos came out quite nicely despite not having a tripod :] Nice way to end the day!

Sydney is one of my favorite cities. Enjoy your time there.
I really love to visit museums of modern art. My favorite until now have been Palazzo Grassi in Venice, Italy.
