Day 231: Bike and Wine
Mendoza – Maipu – Mendoza, Argentina
I didn’t expect Mendoza to have such a wide range of outdoor excursions. One can do mountain hiking to rock climbing to water rafting to skydiving. Adam, Andy af I chose to do the more relax version of an excursion: bike and wine.
The premise is you take a bus to a neighbouring smaller city Maipu, rent a bike there, and make your way visiting wineries. It seems to be the thing to do here for the whole region is famous for its vineyards.
After being sent around by locals to different bus stops and waiting for more than an hour, Adam gave up and went back to take a nap at the hostel. The poor guy was still quite hungover. Andy and I managed to finally reach Maipu.
We first visited a winery that has a free museum. While it was interesting to look at all the equipments involved in the making of wine, with no tour given, we didn’t really learn much.
Second visit was a family owned chocolate, jam and olive oil farm. With the entrance fee, we also got to sample all sort of chocolate, jam, olive oil and liquor.
Note to self:
Dulce de leche liquor = lovely!
Pepper liquor = excellent!
Tea+coffee liquor = meh…
Absinthe= yuck!
To third and last visit (for we couldn’t be arsed to go any further) was a beer garden. This cozy garden with its shaded outdoor sofas under the trees was like an oasis in the midst of sweltering heat.
