Day 211: Sea Warriors
Puerto Montt – Puerto Natales, Chile
When I was spending my morning walking round the ship enjoying the views and taking pictures, I saw some folks doing yoga on the upper deck. I was dying to do some other activities other than roaming about the small ship. I immediately joined them. I needed a good stretch after all. The view that we had was incredible. Imagine this, yoga in the Pacific Ocean, overlooking Patagonian landscape… that spelled Z-E-N! Hehe, we were actually struggling keeping our balances since we´re going through wavy sea.
Speaking of wavy sea… last night after dinner we were warned to take our motion sickness pills since we’d be hitting the Pacific Ocean coming out of the Patagonian channels. We were to expect waves as high as 3 metres. As sure as the sun, the waves kicked in at 11pm just when I was ready to go to bed. Sleeping on my bunk, it felt as if I was on a roller coaster. The whole ship was constantly creaking everywhere. Luckily, I had no problem falling asleep.
By the afternoon, just as I was ready to take an afternoon nap, our ship guide announced that we were approaching a glacier. Everybody rushed out to the deck with the cameras. From afar, I was not at all impressed. I thought this would just be a let down like the dolphins and whales sightings that we had. They were all too far for us to actually have a proper look. But this time, we actually did come quite close to the glacier. The blue color was mesmerizing. Once in a while, pieces of the glacier would crumble. After half an hour of staring at the piece of ice and taking the same photos over and over again, I finally succumbed to the wetness and cold and ducked inside the cabin.
So, another item on things to see in life was crossed out today: Ice glacier ✔
