Day 206: Salmon, Berries and Psychoville

Puerto Montt – Isla Tenglo – Puerto Montt, Chile

Got in Puerto Montt early morning and took a cab to my CS host’s house. Lorenzo had agreed to take me in for the three nights that I’d be spending in the area.

Lorenzo turned out to be a really calm, polite and friendly guy. He had the day off and offered to show me around town. We first went off the touristy area of Angelmon. It’s by the port and it’s loaded with seafood restaurants. Lorenzo said not to eat there for we could easily just buy salmon for real cheap and bake it at his place.

From Angelmon, we took a boat to cross to a small island called Isla Tenglo. The island was small and quiet. Nothing much was there. But that’s what made it such a cool place to be. We hiked up the top of the hill and nobody was there. We just walked around taking photos and enjoying the weather. The hills were full of wild berries. We ate and picked berries along the way.

Before heading back to his home, we stopped by the fish market to pick up salmon for dinner. For a piece that would have easily served 5 people, we paid $8. Insane!

Lorenzo made up some sauce for the baked salmon from the berries that we picked. It was totally made up but it worked nicely.

We spent the rest of the evening watching a British comedy series “Psychoville.” I was surprised that I never heard of this show before. It’s mad funny.
