Day 195: Ozoneless

Santiago, Chile

I backtracked my way through the places that the walking tour guide showed us yesterday. A few sites that I found interesting were the GAM cultural center, the neighbourhood Lastarria, and the famous Emporio La Rosa ice cream place.

I also visited a small gallery called AFA suggested by a local designer Marcos Sanchez. I bumped into Marcos’ porfolio site online and shot him an email asking him for suggestion of cool art scene in Santiago. Marcos told me about the gallery and that his work is on exhibit there. The gallery is small and hidden in an old building. Wouldn’t have had a chance finding it had I not have the exact address. There are some really interesting work in there, including those of the famous British photographer Martin Parr.

Santiago’s weather is strange. I found the temperature okay, being around 30 degrees Celcius or so. It’s not at all humid. However, the sun is extremely harsh. It’s almost blindingly so. I found out later that there’s a hole in the ozone layer in South America region.
