Day 192: Mira Miraflores

Lima, Peru

I decided that I should get a hair trim and colouring done prior to leaving Peru. It’s cheaper to do it here and if I didn’t, I would have had to wait until I get to Indonesia in end of May. Chile, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand will cost too much.

I stopped by at random hair saloon next to my hostel. With my lack of Spanish, I managed to tell the hairdresser what I wanted. Originally I was aiming to bleach my hair but he told me I could only get to certain lightness. I ended up not getting the colour I had imagined but it wasn’t a biggie. Besides, at least my hair is now of one colour, not three. The haircut and colouring only costs me $25.

The afternoon was spent walking around Miraflores. I rather like this part of the city. It has colourful buildings. I also visited a really trendy design store called La Despensa. I wanted everything in there but was able to get out without buying anything. There are a few other trendy places like this throughout Lima.

Luis told me that there’d be an event at the Malecon promenade this evening. Every year, during Valentine’s day, the place would be crowded with couples. The organization that Luis works with set up a stage this year; on which symbolic unions of couples, straights or gays, would take place. I stopped by to meet up with Luis and to check out the event.

Later in the night, Luis and I decided to go grab late night snack at an Argentinian-run restaurant. Thus ended my last day in Peru before I’d head out early the next morning to Chile!
