Day 44: Open Water

Vela Luka, Croatia

The whole staffs went to a sea-urchin clean up mission for the day and I was stuck at the dive center scanning. During which, I bumped into this article in a dive magazine about Bobby and Marjolein.

Apparently, when they were working as dive guides in Sri Lanka, them and three guest divers were left in the water by their dive boat! Five of them were stranded in open water 14 miles offshore for more than 24 hours. They had to go through the night in the black water in fear of sharks and hypothermia. In the end, they were picked up by a passing cargo ship.

That’s just a short summary, the article was quite intense, telling more of the details of their ordeal. The event literally is like the plot of the movie “Open Water“, which I had never watched but would now like to.

Croatian phrase of the day:

Nije mi dobro! = I feel sick
