Vienna, Austria
Vienna was too cold and windy to spend time outdoor. Seemed like another museum day for me. I went to check out MUMOK.
I don’t quite know what to make of the exhibition by Dan Flavin. Like many modern art, it’s weird, cold and devoid of any meaning to most people. Although, the artist himself claimed:
“One might not think of light as a matter of fact, but I do. And it is, as I said, as plain and open and direct an art as you will ever find.”Fair enough… As long as he’s happy and even making himself a living out of it.
I begin to suspect the success to art is persistence and consistency to create a huge body of work. Whether they’re good or not is irrelevant.
In the evening, I visited Aslan (an Austrian photographer I met and spent the day riding on a scooter with in Turkey) in her studio. We then went ahead to a documentary screening in a film festival. “Arraianos” is Spanish and it’s beautifully shot with RED camera. Every scene is carefully framed and lit like a painting.
Aslan’s boyfriend, Niko (also a photographer), gave me a sticker that says “Vermehrt Schönes.” I instinctively placed it on my camera. The phrase means “to make more of beautiful things.” Maybe I’ll get more good photos out of it.
