I never heard and had no intention on visiting Wadi Rum. By chance, I met Carolyn during my dive yesterday. Carolyn …
Day 416: Sunshower
Aqaba, Jordan
I’d never actually done proper wreck diving before. There’s a “wreck” dive site in Vela Luka, Croatia when I was doing my dive internship last year. This site is supposed to be a burnt down restaurant from the 70’s. One can see stove, plates, boats, chairs, bicycles and whatnot in there. I had led a couple of dives and had told the guest divers the background story. It wasn’t after a month later that I found out that the tale is total bullshit. The site is just a garbage dumping points for locals.
Anyway…. I did two real wreck dives today in Aqaba. The first one of a huge sunken ship and the second a sunken tank. It’s awesome! I think I love wreck diving better than regular dives. I love fish and all, but seeing these man-made stuffs underwater gives a brand new perspective. I have no photos to show though. I was too cheap to rent an underwater camera :\
After the dives, the couchsurfers Julia, Pia and I hung out with our host Ali and his friend Hammed by the beach: crashing people’s picnic and getting ourselves some free food. snorkeling, sunbathing and watching the sunset. Perfect day. What else can one ask for in life?
By the way, Egypt is just across the sea. It’s such a shame I have to skip Egypt this time around. Made a promise that I won’t go due to the unstable political situation there. Ah well, the pyramids have been there for thousands of years, I don’t think they’ll be gone any time soon. I can always come back later.
