Day 412: And the World Turns
Amman, Jordan
I have met a bunch of interesting individuals from Couchsurfing but Laura kinda tops the list. It’s not everyday you meet somebody who, in his/her own free will, lived for a year or so in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Born in Romania, Laura left the country at 18 and had since then resided in many countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Belgium, Chad, England, France, Germany, Jordan, Romania, United States. Recently, she worked for an NGO based in Kabul and when the contract terminated, she relocated back to Jordan and worked as a copywriter for the one of marketing and advertising giants Young & Rubicam.
I couldn’t help but wonder how jarringly different the work environment and the mentality of her coworkers are between the NGO field and the advertising field. It’s almost like the two are in the opposite polar ends. It’s like “Yeah… thousands of people lost their homes and are displaced due to the war and the refugees’ livelihood are threatened with the coming famine…. but hey, can you change this to blue cos i don’t think the white text works with the red background. People will confuse it with Coca Cola… mmm, then again, blue and red remind me of Superman… oh, this is tough…”
Yup, this is the life and world I’ll be going home to. Fun!
