Day 393: Some People Ride the Wave
Khuri – Bikaner, India
Entry written by Anneleen:
In the morning there was a beautiful sunrise in the desert. When we got back to the village we got a really good breakfast. We proceeded to Bikaner. Normally we would go back to Jodhpur, but Raju wanted to make a detour for us, so we could see something new.
In Bikaner we visited the old city. There was also a fort, but because we had seen so many forts the last days, so we weren’t so excited about visiting a new one. Raju seems a little bit disappointed and left us at the entrance of the fort. We wanted to drink a coffee and met a guy who wanted to show us the old city. He was so pushy that we asked him to leave us alone. When we got in a tuctuc he suddenly jumped into the vehicle. We asked the driver to stop and to leave the man next to the road. When we finally got into the old city, the driver showed us around. We visited the Havelis and the Jain Temple. Jainism is an Indian religion that prescribes a path of non-violence towards all living beings. These people put for example masks in front of their mouth so that they won’t swallow little insects. In the temple there were beautiful wall paintings and when we got out, there was a beautiful sunset. The ride back to our hotel was quite amusing because of the loud music and flashy lights.
