Day 388: Tourist Charmers
Agra – Jaipur, India
Entry written by Anneleen:
Tuesday we proceeded to Fatehpur Sikri. This city was abandoned in 1585, when there wasn’t enough drinking water for the inhabitants. When we arrived, it was raining cats and dogs. We got a guided tour from a monk in one of the temples. When we entered the tomb we had to wear funny fluorescent green hats and got beaten with a peacock-tail on our head.
In the afternoon the weather got better and we went to Galtaji to visit the monkey temple. People warned us to be aware of the monkeys grabbing our stuff, but that wasn’t really necessary. The temple itself wasn’t really worth visiting, it was very small and had only one little statue of Hanuman (monkey god) in it. But the location of the temple in the mountains was stunning. There also was a sort of bathing place where people washed themselves and their clothes. Little children we’re playing on the stairs that turned into a little waterfall.
After our visit we proceeded to Jaipur, the capital of Rajastan, and in the evening we arrived at our hostel: “Krishna Palace”, the third best hostel in Asia! The rooms were big and comfortable and there was a beautiful rooftop terrace with really good food.
