Day 285: The Ghosts of the Distant Past
Jakarta – Medan, Indonesia
It’s been eight years since I returned to my hometown, Medan. And it’s been eight years since I last saw my dad.
It was a whirlwind of a day, starting with a two and a half hour delay on my two and a half hour flight. Upon landing in Medan, it was a quick visit to my old home and awkward dinner with my dad and his new family, followed by a meet-up with my old high school friend, Yohanna, then a meet-up with a long lost childhood friend, Andy. Too much emotion to digest for a day… Especially when I hadn’t sleep properly for days.
Aside from visiting my dad, the purpose of my coming home is also to sort out some family business (the saga continues!) I have a feeling my blog entries during my time here will be both too boring and too personal to write about. I’ll probably just entertain you guys with food photos instead.
