Day 212: Land Ahoy!
Puerto Montt – Puerto Natales, Chile
As we made our way further south, the weather grew colder and colder. On our last day aboard Navimag, not that many of us spent time outdoor on the deck. One could feel the anxiety and eagerness to finally arrive in Puerto Natales. People killed time playing cards and board games, reading, listening to music and napping on couches.
Our original schedule said that we´d be arriving in Puerto Natales at 2pm in the afternoon but it wasn´t until almost 7pm that we actually docked.
I meant to couchsurf at a local family´s house. The mother informed me that she´d pick me up but we arrived 5 hours later than intended. I had no means to get in touch with her at all when the ship was sailing. As soon as we hit the port and I had signal on my phone, I called her number. A Spanish speaker picked up the phone and she couldn´t understand me at all, nor I her.
In the end, I decided to just tag along with the two Swiss girls, Nicole and Kathrin, to their hostel. I was lucky there´s one extra space left, but only for the night. Most hostels were still rather full even though it´s towards the end of the high season.
