Day 207: Strangeness and Charm
Puerto Montt – Puerto Varas – Frutillar – Puerto Montt, Chile
Chile can be weird. La Serena has the Japanese Garden and the Lake District has the German towns.
By the way, it’s late and I’m tired so I’m gonna rush through the entry of this day. Sorry folks.
Morning: bus from Puerto Montt to Puerto Varas. Only took 30 mins. Puerto Varas is a better looking town than Puerto Montt. A lot smaller, a lot prettier, a lot of “German”. These towns in the Lake area of Chile have a lot of inhabitants of German descents. Many Germans immigrated to the area in the 19th century. Anyway, not much to do really in Puerto Varas. Went up the hill of a park that’s in the outskirt of town. Totally not worth it. Some photos:
Next: took another bus from Puerto Varas to Frutillar. About an hour ride. Now, Frutillar is really charming, quaint, and totally German. Everything there is cute. Check out the German Museum if you visit Frutillar. And do try the German “Kuchen” pie. That’s all folks!
