Day 197: Coca Cola Chicken

Santiago, Chile

I woke up at 10:30 this morning. It’s probably the latest I ever woke up since I got to South America. Got my internet fix before I decided to head out. Eddie didn’t get back from his party until 5:30am so he was sleeping in as well.

However, he woke up just in time when I was writing him a note. We went to do some grocery shopping and get lunch. Afterward, we visited the Bella Artes museum. The exhibition there was not something to write home about but the building itself is quite a piece of art. It’s built in Victorian style and totally looked like it’s from the 18th century Paris.

Since Eddie had never been to a touristy spot called Cerro San Cristobal, he decided to join me. There’s a famous funicular that transport people up the hill. It was, apparently, one of the top ten things to do in Chile in the guidebook I read. The commute up was short and the view in the top of Cerro San Cristobal was good. Yet, I really don’t think it merits a top 10 list.

At night, I attempted to cook the Coca Cola chicken that a friend taught me. It must have been almost a year since I made it so I was not at all sure if I’d be successful. But it turned out to be fantastic! I suppose it’s so easy to make that you cannot ever go wrong. If I can pull it off, I’m sure everybody can. Anyway, here’s the ingredient and recipe:

Ingredient:

  • 12 chicken wings
  • soy sauce
  • 2 cans of Coca Cola

Recipe:

  • Put all the chicken wings on a wide pan and pan fry them (without oil) until they’re brownish on the skin
  • Pour a good amount of soy sauce and stir them with the chicken
  • Pour the Coca Cola into the pan until they cover all the wings
  • Let the Coca Cola “sauce” to boil
  • Let the sauce to simmer until it caramelized
  • Voila!
