Day 193: Reach A Bit Further
Lima, Peru – Santiago, Chile
I think I’ll miss Peru. I had a wonderful time there but the big part of it was the people that I met. Anyway, it’s time to move on. Chile’s next.
The flight from Lima to Santiago was my third out of sixteen from the OneWorld RTW tickets. Good thing I read the night before from a guidebook and found out that I’d need to pay $140 for visa to enter Chile. I made sure I withdrew enough dollars prior to boarding my flights. South America was supposed to be cheap, but for visas alone (Bolivia, Chile and Argentina), I’d have to spend $420. What a bummer.
The flight was uneventful. Chile is supposedly noticeably more expensive than Peru so I decided to take public transportation from the airport to the hostel. It was also possible because the transport system in Santiago is really good. I took the airport bus into town then connected to their underground Metro. Nice and easy.
Settling into my hostel, I took the rest of the afternoon and evening staying in. My hostel surprisingly offered free dinner! Most hostels I had stayed at came with free breakfast, but for dinner, this was the first.
