Day 183: Bolivia Five-O

La Paz, Bolivia

It’s either going to watch Bolivian football or Bolivian girl wrestling (Cholitas) today. Due to the fact that an Englishman (Ben) was making the call, it’s pretty certain which decision he made.

I met up with Nat, Ben, Justin and a bunch of other blokes (never really learnt their names) and off we went to La Paz’s stadium.

The gang all bought the Bolivar team tees, ready to get into cheering action. I chose not yo buy one as I have had bought a few extra pieces of clothing and they’re just gonna add to the overall weight of my backpack.

The football match turned out to br alright, nothing to write home about. It was a game between two Bolivian teams: Bolivar vs. Blooming. Bolivar won by 5-0. Two of the goals were made 10 minutes into the match.

I was slightly disappointed and wished that I had gone to watch the Cholitas instead. However, the German and French guys at my hostel, whom I told about Cholitas earlier in the day, went and were equally let down by it.

I was planning to just stay around at the hostel for the evening but ended up joining one of my dorm mates, a German boy named Andre, out and about La Paz trying to find dinner at 10pm.

Most places were closed and we noticed that the crowds mostly were heading towards a direction. Following them, we found what seemed to be a night fair. Loads of local food stands, souvenir stands and game stands there. We were probably the only foreigners in the area. Two kids came to us trying to make conversations. We hung around with them playing a few games in different game stands. I hated myself for not bringing my camera with me and was too afraid to pull out my iPhone.

It was a fun evening. Andre told me how he’s always been lucky during his two year travel; how he always bumped into festivals and celebrations in the cities he visited without planning. I guess his knack also came into play this time around.
