Day 134: Around the World in 20 Mins
Ouarzazate, Morocco
So upon learning about the few site there are to see around Ouarzazate me and elys hired a car to check a few of them out.
First on our list, Atlas studios, where such films as Gladiator, The Mummy Returns, Kundun, etc. were made. The tour took us through many different sets, in about 20 mins we went to China, Rome, Greece and Egypt. We were blessed enough to share some of the same footprints at Russell Crowe!!! I know I can hardly believe it either. Now you may ask “Why a movie studio in the middle of nowhere Morocco?” Beats me but the sets were a good opportunity to take some action photos (another animated GIF file! It’s 4MB+, takes a while to load but totally worth it.)
The next few stops were all Kasbahs which are similar to castles which were build for defense and as a sign of wealth. The most famous one, Ait Ben Haddou, was used in the filming of Gladiator as well. We had a lot of fun the whole day but going to look at the Kasbahs is like going to look at cathedrals in Europe, when you seen one or two you’ve seen them all.
We made a few other stops on the way to check out some scenery and eventually made it back by the late after noon and were plotting our next moves, still to be determined.
