Day 124: You Better Learn How To Surf
Chefchaouen -Tetouan -Tanger – Asilah, Morocco
We didn’t want to leave Chefchaouen but we have to keep on keeping on. We found the only way to Asilah was heading back up north through Tangier. We had another few hours of bus traveling monotony that we broke up with, sleeping, writing blogs, sweating balls, smelling puke, sitting in place for long periods, and beating off everyone who wants a tip for having a first name.
Fast forwarding to bus station, we were greeted by a friend from couch surfing, Abdul, who helped us find a place to stay, showed us around the city, and introduced us to some of his friends.
We hung out seaside in the medina to watch the sun go down over the Atlantic. Abdul’s friends all enjoy playing guitar so we spent the rest of the evening trading songs and listening to Redwan play us some flamenco tunes.
Walls of the medina are painted with the interesting murals made by artists from around the world. Every year there is an art festival where people from all around come to show off their works and make new ones. But even year round you can feel how deep art, in many mediums, is rooted into this city, and it seems like everyone we meet has talent.
Elys and I were staying the night with Abdul’s aunt, uncle and cousins. When we got back from the medina his aunt had a feast ready to go for us. Shortly after we hit the pillows, belly’s fueled with the meatball and egg taijine.
