Day 122: Go Chasing Waterfalls
Chefchaouen – Akchour – Chefchaouen, Morocco
Elys didn’t completely hate my post from yesterday so she’s giving me the chance to do it again today!!! YEY!!
Last night we heard some fellow travelers talking about a waterfall tucked into the mountains not to far from Chefchaouen and knew we needed to check it out for ourselves. This morning we got together with a few friends we made in the hostel and split a taxi 6 ways and take the scenic route up into the mountain. It was a great plan…but we forgot to ask how many of us can actually fit into a cab.
We hopped out at the entrance to the trail and started our trek to the waterfall. the path had us meander through the valley underneath the shear cliffs, running from troupes of monkeys, and zig zag across the stream (occasionally falling in….a lot).
After a few hours trek the waterfall decided to show itself. The group of us, dirty and sweaty couldn’t hop in soon enough. We all climbed out behind the waterfall and had a look around. A local I met had me take a look into a cave he had found. I poked my head in and saw a few snakes slithering across the floor. It was only after I had gotten within striking distance he advised me that the snakes were highly poisonous by showing me a hand gesture of his finger crossing his throat so I figured it would be good to let these snakes just enjoy their day.
After out freezing cold dip we decided it was about time to make it back, on the way taking a break at a forrest rest stop to warm up with the locals mint tea and good company.
Note from Elys: I bloody lost a dozen of photos from my waterproof camera due to some technical mishaps Could have posted awesome photos of us behind the lush green area which we climbed up on behind/inside the waterfall.
