Day 385: Riding Shotgun

Bangkok – Ayutthaya, Thailand

Last night, Papa Charn offered to drive me in his Porsche to a UNESCO World Heritage site Ayutthaya today to take some photos. It was an offer impossible to decline.

At 6am in the morning, we left the apartment in Bangkok and headed towards Ayutthaya. By 9am, we pulled back in the parking lot in the apartment. Ayutthaya is 67km away. We drove about 170km/h at some point. I had the chance to roam around the old ruins for free because the entrance officials weren’t even in for work yet. I also had the whole place for myself save for a bunch of stray dogs roaming around me.

Having still a full day to spend despite having traveled to and fro a neighbouring city, I got to join Mama Aranya to her nephew’s university graduation rehearsal.

My sister in law, Tanya, brought me to a temple by Bangkok Chao Phraya’s river to show me this cool scene where locals throw in food to feed the fish. It’s a form of charity. The fish went wild with each scoop of the fish pellets toss into the river. If I were a fisherman, I would have docked myself at the next pier to catch these fat fish. But such act is frowned upon in Buddhism.
