Day 282: 2 Much Chocolate

Farewell Spit – Takaka – Aoraki – Nelson – Blenheim, New Zealand

This morning it was raining so hard, that Elys actually thought we had been swept away by the sea during the night. Fortunately, we found the car still standing where we had stopped it for the night. We spent our last day together driving the approximately 350 km to Blenheim where we were to meet my future travel mates Vroni and Alex. Along the way, we stopped in Takaka for a quick visit to the public library (internet) and had a delicious lunch at a Salmon farm close by. If we were to stay longer in our van together, we definitely would have tried our luck with the fishing rod and line here, but as it is, we went for a variety of fish dips with crackers and some delicious fried fish balls with wasabi mayonnaise instead. The rest of the day we spent driving in the rain over mountains and through valleys that probably do look really nice and maybe even more than that on a sunny day…

Finally in Blenheim, we meet Alex and Vroni en route to the campground where we stay together for the night and have a nice dinner of curry and rice with lots of Tim Tam to top it of. Tomorrow, Elys will have to drive all the way back down to Christchurch on her own, while I go on to Picton and the North Island with my new travel companions and their Spaceship.

Parting ways is always sad and I am sure that I will miss Elys badly! But maybe we will get the chance to go to Prague together in the autumn and check out if there is any nice views or good chocolate to be found there…

Have you tried a Tim-Tim Slam? You bite two opposite corners off a Tim-Tam, and then use it like a straw to drink tea through.

Yes!! That’s what got us into the chocolate craze! We’d been Tim Tam Slamming after every meal. Soooooo good! And I wondered why I gained 5 pounds.
