Day 145: The Canals of Our City

Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Super fruitful day today. I made up for yesterday’s slack by visiting all the major sights in Amsterdam and taking a bunch of photos. I joined the canal boat tour in the morning, then  followed by the Sanderman’s “New Europe” free walking tour.

I also made sure that I visited Anne Frank museum. Having learnt her story and watched the movie about her diary, I felt a need to check out the actual site. Although the rooms are no longer furnished, there are still left-over magazine cut outs that Anne pasted in her bedroom wall during her hiding years. But what I found most heart-wrenching was Anne’s and her sister Margot’s growth charts on the wall; probably penciled by their dad.

In the evening, I met up with Chee and later on, Sebastian to go have dinner at an Indonesian restaurant. I wanted to try Dutch spin of Indonesian cuisine. Since Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for three and a half century, there’s quite a bit of cultural similarities. The dinner was great and so were the companies :]

I didn’t take any pictures of Chee and Sebastian during dinner, but here’s one after dinner, when the three of us were having our internet fix.

And by the way, the featured photo above is of their cat, Novi. And this is their other cat, Stieg.
