Day 132: Trekking with Mustafa, Fatima and Bob Marley

Tinghir – Gorge Todra – Tinghir, Morocco

Lasshan met us this morning and we he took us for a trip up into the gorges. On either side of us rock faces shot up to great highest and left us feeling shrunken in the landscape. Walking down the path people were choosing to enjoy the terrain in different way, some were trekking to the tops of the mountains, others road dirt bikes through the barrens, and some who were not as vertically challenged as myself were climbing up the faces.

Walking down the path we followed the river which starts us in the highlands and headed back towards town. We walked through the farms which were fed by the river. Meandering along the banks Lasshan pointed out the different plants farmer grew locally, herbs like mint and parsley, oranges, pomegranates figs, and loads of others. Lasshan would pick some fruit and toss it back to us to give it a try, and it was all delicious, fresher than the market, except for the pomegranates, they were a bit sour. Lasshan looked up in the trees and I saw his eyes open up. Next thing you know he was climbing up the side of a palm checking out dates growing up in the tops, which he threw down to us.

Later in the day Elys was feeling sick so we kicked back the rest of the night and made some plans for moving on tomorrow for Ouarzazate.
