Day 82: Enjoy Coca Cola

Belgrade, Serbia

Since I hate writing, I figure I can do guest entries. Sarah agreed to be the first.

We went to visit this church. giant and beautiful and under construction. It has a mini-version right next to it. the top picture is the big one, the second is the mini one. Super beautiful. Had the idea to visit lots of churches in Beograd that day, alas, we didn’t get to hit as many as we wanted… it was a big and good walking day.

Building bombed by NATO in ’99.  It was around the corner from our hostel. Manga hostel. lovely people. And a lovely cat that of course Elys and I were in love with. She mostly slept and made funny faces.

At the belgrade “seaside” It is a “beach” next to the river, really mostly rocky areas to sit and lots of bars with swings to sit on. Also water polo, as you can see below. gooooooooooooollllllllllllllllll!!!

The fountain in the river and the light against the buildings made a beautiful exit for us as we walked back to the bus to go back to the city, to meet our new friend John for dinner at a restaurant that looked like an opera house and there was a string quartet that serenaded us as we ate. made the food even more delicious than it already was. Great bang for your buck in belgrade.

John also took us to the Federal Association of Globetrotters, which was a lovely bar that was much like an American speakeasy. It was a place where people would come during rough times to discuss political goingson in the city and surrounding area. A beautiful bar with many good people. We went out dancing that night. I was interesting. the floating bars in belgrade are quite a time. Expensive,so we chose the the free ones. I think we all had a pretty good time. We ended up spending a bunch  of time on the bridge taking pictures. The dancing was interesting. inthe more elite section of the bar, the people were all just standing around. On the floor, they danced. When the popular serbian rap song came on, everyone started rapping. Super. It was neat. I have to say, the mixologist dj was somewhat below average, but played about 10 seconds of some pretty good tunes.

I will have to write another guest entry when I am feeling a bit more clever. now, I am sleepy and have quite a lack of cleverness oozing from my body. Or maybe that’s the lack of vegetables and amount of bosnian beer that I have ingested…

lakanoche

Word of the night: vesse (that last e should have an accent.) French for spanking.
